Darkness Visible

Another digital concept art piece that I had to due within a week. Like 'Sound & Colour' (another art piece of mine on here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/lxgWQJ ). This one was inspired by a sentence/lyric of a song: 'Yet from those flames, no light. But rather, darkness visible'. This is a lyric from the song 'Darkness Visible' by Mumford & Sons.

The message that I wanted to express through this product was that even the darkest characters –villains, enemies, demons- have something they’re fighting for and protecting through their awful lifestyles. My demonic character is protecting his betrothed, once being ambushed by the police for their ‘lifestyle’ of being a romantic item in a time it was unheard of in the19th century -which is pushed by the Victorian clothing of the officers-. The character in black is murdering out of pure hatred of these policemen but he’s doing it with the intention of freedom and the fear of losing their only comfort. To them, this is opening door to a life of safety, whilst to others, it may be seen as a hate crime and that these people deserve to be ripped apart for justice.

Yet from those flames, no light
But rather; darkness visible.

Yet from those flames, no light
But rather; darkness visible.
